Land of Lawns
Upstate New Yorkers have amazing lawns. It seems as if everyone has a golf course in the front of their house, therefore Upstate New York is now officially named Land of Lawns. Yesterday we road roughly 55 miles but I wouldn't call it rough. Our journey took us along the Erie Canal, which meant we didn't have to deal with cars just a dirt paths instead, it was beautiful. We camped out along the trail at the base of a corn field and Michael was very concerned about trespassing so we were on our bikes around 5 am. We just passed into Canada, saw Niagra Falls (it's pretty neat, you all should see it), spent too much time visiting useless visitor centers, and now I am scoping out routes on the internet. I think we'll take highway 3, but I let you know if plans change. Till then - Happy Summer! By the way our butts are sore, why didn't anyone warn us?!! :-)

Days before departure
Last summer while Michael and I were biking to a conference we joked about doing something big during our 30th year of life. Why not bike across the United States? Sounded like a worthy endeavor to two teachers who have time off in the summer so we decided to follow Nike's advice and "just do it". With little planning and preparation adventure is inevitable. We will do our best to keep you posted on our adventures...and misadventures too!
